Surfing For Physics Formulas For Velocity?

Chris asks…Physics Formulas - Velocity/Acceleration?What are each of these two formulas used for?

vf^2 - vi^2 = 2a(xf-xi)

and..

(xf - xi) = vi(tf - ti) + 1/2a(tf-ti)^2

I am confused.Nancy answers:This one...
Vf^2 - vi^2 = 2a(xf-xi)

If you re-arrange it, it's the more common (4th kinematics equation)

vf^2 = vi^2 + 2ad where d is the distance travelled under accel. Use this equation to solve most problems where time is not given.

The 2nd one is recognised as the 3rd Kinematics
