Surfing For How Many Liters Of A 90 Acid Solution?

Mary asks…how many liters of a 90% acid solution must be added to 6 liters of a 15% acid solution to obtain a 40% acid?solution?Nancy answers:0.90x + 0.15(6)
------------------------ = 0.40
x + 6

0.90x + 0.90
--------------------- = 0.40
x + 6

0.40(x + 6) = 0.90x + 0.90

0.40x + 2.40 = 0.90x + 0.90

-0.50x = -1.50

x = 3

The answer is 3 liters.
