Surfing For Agcl Is A Solid?

Thomas asks…How do you know when your combining compounds that the result will be either a solid(precipitate) or a liquid?How do you know when your combining compounds that the result will be either a solid(precipitate) or a liquid (aq)?

For example

BeCl2 is a liquid (aq)
while:
AgCl is a solid (s)

How do you predict whether it will be a (s) or a (aq) when do elements are combined?
Does the periodic table give us clues, like where they are located on the periodic table, ect.?Nancy
